Short on talent at wide receiver, the New England Partriots dug themselves in an even deeper hole today by waiving second year wide receiver Kenbrell Thompkins.

Thompkins, 26, had caught six balls for 53 yards so far this season, a far cry from the 32 he nabbed for 466 yards as a rookie.

Passed on the depth chart by veteran wideout Brandon LaFell, perhaps New England felt as though it was no longer necessary to carry a guy who caught just 47.5% of passes thrown to him in his career.

He has been active for just two games this season. He say snaps in the Miami game catching five balls for 37 yards and in the Oakland game where he made another catch for 16 yards.

It seems likely that the Patriots will bring Thompkins back as a member of the practice squad since he seems to be doing the right thing.

"Hard-working kid, one of our hardest workers,” Belichick said of Thompkins. “He really tries hard to do everything right. Very attentive, very coachable and he’s very hard working.”
