Although Jose Abreu unanimously won the 2014 American League Rookie of the Year receiving all 30 first place votes, a familiar face received some consideration.

No, it was not Xander Bogaerts who was in the running for such a prestigious award but instead, Brock Holt received consideration for the honor.

Although this past season was the third straight year in which he saw big league action, Holt was still eligible for the award.

After hitting .281/.331/.381/.711 in 106 games, smacking four home runs and swiping 12 bags while playing every position in the field except for the batteries, he received a third place vote in Rookie of the Year voting. He tied for eighth place in the voting with one point while Jose Abreu received 150 points in all.

Even though Holt is not the 30 homerun hitter that Abreu is, he still contributes to the team nonetheless. Next season, Holt is projected to be a utility man and will help the Red Sox at almost every spot in the field.
