While the Boston Red Sox are waiting to hear back on offers to Pablo Sandoval and Jon Lester, they are still busy making other moves. Among these was signing pitcher Jorge Marban out of Independent League baseball according to Baseball Essential.
In 44 games split between two teams in two different leagues, the 25-year-old righty posted a 3.81 ERA in 44 appearances striking out 70 men in 54.1 frames while walking 51 batters.
Right now, he is pitching in Australia as a member of the Perth Heat. Allowing just one run in ten frames, he caught the Red Sox attention.
Although it is unclear what role he will serve, it seems likely that Marban will add some depth to the middle of the Red Sox farm system.
